Nitrous Oxide, also known as sweet air or laughing gas, is the most commonly used form of sedation in dentistry. It is administered by inhalation along with oxygen, while being carefully monitored by your doctor. Patients fall into a euphoric state and feel completely relaxed. Feelings of anxiety fade away, leaving the patient to relax while the dental procedure is completed. In many cases all dental work can be completed in one visit.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe and effective. Once the procedure is complete, the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly, and the patient will be able to drive home and return to normal daily activities.
Patients need to have a preliminary visit with the dentist to make certain the patient is an eligible candidate for sedation.
